- Cervical Spine – This portion of the spine consists of the cervical discs and the cervical vertebrae. This area of the spine allows you to move your head around. When you hear about C1, C2, C3, C4, C5, C6, and C7, you are hearing about the area known as the cervical spine.

Spondylolisthesis occurs when a vertebra slips over the one below it causing compression on the nerve root.
- Sacrum – This part of the spine has five fused bones. This region supports the back of the pelvis and forms the sacroiliac joints at the hip bone. The sacral nerves and blood vessels run through this area of the spine. Most of the pain that can arise from this area comes from the spot where the spine and the sacral region connect.
- Coccyx – This area is at the bottom of the spine, and houses four fused vertebrae. This area of the spine is the shock absorber.
