At the end of September, I rode my bike for Pedal the Cause – an amazing St. Louis-based charity that gives 100% of money donated to fund research to cure cancer.
As so many of us do, I have family and friends who have had and are currently fighting cancer. So many of my friends generously donated.
I was excited to bike 50 miles and was so disappointed to crash only four miles into my ride! My front wheel hit a crack in the road and I fell hard. The assistance truck was really helpful – they loaned me a new wheel, cleaned my leg up and sent me back on my bike. My leg looked awful but cancer survivors do not stop because of setbacks and neither did I.
I had a great time riding while raising a lot of money for a truly worthy cause. I also got new bike wheels AND saw my orthopod.
Pedal’s mission is providing critical funding for cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and Siteman Kids at St. Louis Children’s Hospital through their annual cycling challenge. They hope that research funded by Pedal the Cause will lead to a cure for cancer.
My wife and I ride on Team Ellen, which is named for our friends’ mother, Ellen Moore. Team Ellen has proudly raised $135,325 for cancer research since 2013.
With 3,074 riders, Pedal the Cause raised $2,813,965 in donations this year!
