(314) 500-HURTWhen most people hear the phrase “personal injury lawyer,” they often think of the cases that
center around passenger vehicle, motorcycle, or semi truck
accidents. While these accidents lead to around 2 million injuries per year, and more than 20,000 deaths, they
aren’t the only type of accident that necessitates the assistance of a personal injury attorney.
Although the following types of accidents may not be at the forefront of everyone’s mind when they think about personal
injury litigation, these accidents can be just as serious as those that occur in a vehicle.
Slip and Fall Accidents
Accidents that involve slips and falls, especially in public places, are among the most common personal injury lawsuits.
While some may underestimate them, the injuries that result from these accidents can be very serious and even deadly. Slip and fall accidents are among
the top reasons for emergency room visits, and they are a leading cause of traumatic brain injuries, ranging from mild
concussions to lasting permanent conditions.
Accidents at Work
There are a variety of workplace safety issues that can lead to injuries, and they’re not unique to any particular
industry. While many people might think of construction or manufacturing to be the most dangerous types of jobs, any
workplace can become hazardous without the right safety precautions in place.
For example, slip and fall accidents don’t just happen to shoppers, either. Black Friday (and now Black
Thursday, too) is notorious for presenting danger to retail workers across the country. For example, in 2008, two
shoppers and a temporary worker at a Valley Stream, NY, Wal-Mart were trampled to death when the store opened. Unsafe
working conditions can arise in any industry, so it’s important for workers to know their rights, especially if their
employers have failed to institute proper safety guidelines in the workplace. Workers who are injured on the job can
file a claim and an employer will have 30 days to respond. If they don’t, the claim is deemed admitted, and workers may
be entitled to a worker’s compensation settlement.
Defective Product Injuries
Most consumers would like to have faith in the products they purchase, especially for electronics and power equipment.
But items that run on electricity can be dangerous to use, especially if the product wasn’t properly tested for safety.
From vehicles to small appliances and tools, a defective product accident should be
taken seriously.
