Diacetyl is dangerous and banned in many countries. It should not be in e-cigarettes. If you’re suffering from serious lung problems, we can help.
Diacetyl is a compound that can be found in e-cigarettes. It imparts a buttery or butterscotch flavor that can enhance the experience of using an e-cigarrete or vape-pen. Guess what? It’s also banned in over 28 countries in Europe. Why? Because the inhalation of this chemical can cause serious and detrimental health defects to your lungs. In some cases, it can even lead to death. But if this chemical is extremely deadly, then why is it allowed in vape-pens?
Tobbacco and e-cigarette companies want to make money. They need you to be hooked on their products, and nicotine goes a long way to ensuring that you’re chemically bound to their products. But if that isn’t enough, they also want to fool you into thinking that what you are inhaling tastes interesting or good. Diacetyl helps with that. It gives a buttery or even candy-like butterscotch flavor that will keep you hooked and keep you using. Diacetyl is dangerous, and even deadly. There is no confusion regarding that. You may be more familiar with microwave popcorn workers dying from exposure to diacetyl. This was way back in 2007.
If Diacetyl was known to be dangerous in 2007, why was it allowed to be used in vape pens and vaping flavors? Greed, plain and simple. Vaping Companies and E-cigarette companies want you to be hooked and to stay hooked to their product.
Other Dangers of Vaping: heavy metals and formaldehyde
Many harmful trace metals have also been discovered in e-cigarettes. Most e-cigarettes produce an aerosol by heating an e-liquid with a metal coil. The heating element in e-cigarettes emits tiny particles, sometimes including metals, which can lodge themselves deep into the lungs and get absorbed into the body’s circulatory system. Nickel, chromium, cadium, tin, aluminum, silica and lead have all been observed and are potential carcinogens. A 2018 study found that the metals associated with these heating coils were leaching into the liquid solution and into the bodies of people inhaling them. Chronic exposure to such metals has been linked to lung, liver, heart and brain damage, and may also depress immune function and increase cancer risk.
Additionally, while flavoring liquids can vary from e-liquid to e-liquid, propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG) are essentially universal. These are considered non-toxic when ingested, but may be toxic when inhaled. When PG/VG is heated, it can become oxidized to produce carbonyl compounds, such as glyoxal, acrolein, acetaldehyde, and formaldehyde, a cancer-causing substance.
Here is an article detailing the dangers of inhaling Glycerin while vaping. This young woman was put into a medically induced coma because her lungs became filled with fat particles that started growing in her lungs after vaping every day for 3 years. The fat particles were directly linked to glycerin which can be found in vape juice. Like many others, she thought vaping was a safe alternative to smoking. It is not, it is dangerous, and now known to be deadly.
Vaping seems to be capable of causing a variety of injury patterns in the lung. This reflects the large number of different chemicals involved, which may have variable pathological effects.
Facts alone don’t help you get better, and now you’re suffering from a serious lung illness or disease because of the greed of these companies. What can you do? What should you do? Diacetyl and Vaping – Is it Dangerous?
Diacetyl is dangerous. This is an agreed-upon fact. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) stated that exposure to the chemical should be extremely limited to protect the health of workers. If workers can’t be over-exposed to the chemical, would you think it is safe to inhale and put directly inside your body?
You may be thinking, “Well that’s just one study, that doesn’t mean anything.” You would be wrong. There have been many different studies linking diacetyl to serious and detrimental health defects and diseases that absolutely devastate your lungs. Here is a short list:
- E-Cigarette Flavorings linked to Lung Defects – The vast majority of lung diseases are also associated with impaired cilia cell functions. Diacetyl has been directly linked to weakened cilia cell functions.
- Lab Tests reveal popular vape liquids contain Diacetyl – Companies that produced e-cigarette liquids claimed that their products were free of diacetyl. When they were tested for the chemical, they were, however, found to contain the dangerous chemical.
- Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health finds Diacetyl Dangerous – Diacetyl was found to be dangerous for workers who work near or around the substance, although they are given warnings that working near the substance is dangerous. Vaping products are not e-cigarette users are not given similar warnings and they inhale the chemicals directly.
- 5 People in Utah Hospitalized after Vaping -” Utah Department of Health states 5 people have been hospitalized with lung problems after reporting use of vaping”.
- E-cigarettes change blood vessels – A study published in the Journal of Radiology found that vaping just one time can have impair and impact your blood vessels.
- Acute Effects of Electronic Cigarette Aerosol Inhalation on Vascular Function Detected at Quantitative MRI – Healthy, non-smokers had impaired lung functions after after using vaping products.
- Reported Illnesses linked to Vaping is now over 150 – Over 150 cases in 16 different states are now linked to health diseases and serious lung issues after the use of vaping products.

They didn’t care about your health, they only cared about their profits.
