Ferrari has advised that if drivers see a low brake fluid warning on their dashboard, that they should pull over as soon as it is safe to do so, contact Ferrari Roadside Assistance and have the vehicle towed to the nearest authorized Ferrari dealer. Brake failures can happen abruptly after a low brake fluid warning comes on.
There are typically about 30,000 parts in a car. When any one of those parts is defective in any way, it can mean you may have paid much more for the car than you should have, and create a serious risk of injury. When a defective product is discovered, manufacturers and government authorities issue recalls to address the issue and ensure no one else gets hurt. This, in most cases, also functions to protect the manufacturer from liability.
Recalls happen in one of two ways:
Vehicle recalls are not uncommon. In 2020 the NHTSA issued 886 vehicle recalls, which affected 54,900,946 individual vehicles. Unfortunately, the financial and physical costs of those defects when they are not caught in time are not uncommon either.

Ferrari has recalled 23,555 vehicles for potentially leaking brake fluid, which could lead to partial or complete loss of braking ability. An initial recall was issued on October 29, 2021 for the 2010-2015 and 2016-2019 Ferrari 488 models, and was further expanded in another recall on July 26, 2022. You can see the full list of affected models below, which includes almost every car Ferrari has sold in the U.S. since 2005.
The defect centers around their brake fluid reservoir caps. The caps may not vent pressure adequately, which can lead to a vacuum in the reservoir, which causes the brake fluid to leak. If the brake fluid reservoir empties completely it can lead to total brake failure. Failure of the breaking systems can not only lead to a decrease in your car’s value, but can lead to extensive property damage, personal injury and even wrongful death in the event of a car accident.
Ferrari is a co-defendant in the class-action lawsuit alongside Robert Bosch LLC and Robert Bosch GmbH, a German multinational engineering electronics company that is the world’s largest supplier of automotive components and that manufactured the defective brake systems. Ferrari and Bosch have known about the brake defects since at least 2015, when a Technical Engineer with Ferrari S.p.A. testified in Hong Kong regarding the efficaciousness and engineering of the braking systems within the Class Vehicles at a criminal trial on the matter of wrongful death following a crash of a 2012 Ferrari 458 Spider. But in truth they should have known about the defect years earlier through testing and analysis. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration received complaints at least as early as 2018.

As per any vehicle recall, Ferrari and associated dealerships and mechanics will fix the defective brake system, usually for free.
